How Volunteering Helps Me Reset

I’m finding my volunteer job as Minnetonka Choirs Webmaster has been helpful to my voiceover work because it requires me to think differently, or, for those of you super into jargon, it’s a “pattern interruption.”

A good deal of the work involves design, which does not come naturally to me. It takes longer than I’d like to design things. On the flip side, I’m sure there are designers out there who would struggle to sound conversational in a corporate narration.

With a choir concert on December 17, I’ve been busy. Here are some of the things I’ve created just in the past couple of weeks:  

·     A web page to sell concert recordings

·     A web page to sell poinsettias

·     Instagram posts to promote choir merchandise, membership, and concert recordings

Again, I’m not a designer, but doing this work encourages me to evaluate the design of my own marketing materials, helps me become a better copywriter, and allows me to shift my focus which, in turn, helps spark ideas for my own business.

Plus, it helps support kids who make beautiful music.
